Shangri-La → Feilai Temple → Ninong → Yubeng
A practical staged route into Yubeng, designed to make the journey smoother by breaking it into the right stopovers before the final hike.
Overview
This is the smartest way to approach Yubeng if you want the trip to feel manageable instead of rushed. Rather than treating Yubeng like a direct point-to-point transfer, you break the journey into logical stages: Shangri-La for transport, Feilai Temple or Deqin for positioning, Ninong for final access, and then Yubeng itself.
Best option
Travel from Shangri-La to the Deqin / Feilai Temple side first, then continue to Ninong and hike into Yubeng.
Why do this route
- • It makes the trip far less stressful than trying to rush everything in one push
- • You get time to rest and prepare before the mountain approach
- • It is the most practical way to treat Yubeng like a proper hiking destination
Step by step
1. Reach Shangri-La first
Use Shangri-La as your final major base to organise transport, supplies, cash and any last-minute planning before going deeper into the mountains.
2. Move to Feilai Temple or Deqin
This is the best staging area before Yubeng. Sleep here, check conditions and avoid forcing the whole route in one long exhausting day.
3. Continue to Ninong
Ninong is the key access point for the final approach. This is where many travellers sort water, food and sometimes leave larger bags before starting the hike.
4. Hike into Yubeng
The final stretch is a real mountain approach. It is manageable for many travellers, but it still requires steady effort, decent pacing and basic preparation.
